Asthma
Bayside Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal
Medicine Clinic provides complementary medical modalities
for a more wholistic approach to the treatment and
prevention of asthma as well as lessening over-reliance
and misuse of preventative and symptomatic medicines
and reducing the frequency and severity of asthmatic
attacks.
The common deficiencies often seen
with asthma sufferers are of the lungs, spleen and
kidneys. There is usually inefficient metabolism,
digestion and elimination.
Acupuncture has been demonstrated to
ease bronchio-constriction, lessen anxiety, tonify
digestion and reduce phlegm formation. Chinese Herbs
can also dissolve/resolve excessive phlegm production,
augment digestion, reduce inflammation and allergic
reactions/inflammatory cascades. We also encourage
patients to take up simple, helpful exercise regimens
such asTai Chi and Qi Gong breathing exercises.
It has been demonstrated in China
that with long term tonification treatment and constitutional
improvement, the frequency and severity of attacks
will be considerably reduced.
Food allergies and sensitivities
to things such as milk, chocolate, peanuts and wheat
products may contribute a large part to asthma attacks,
as may food additives such as MSG, sulphites and histamines.
Evening primrose oil and other
omega-3 essential fatty acid sources have anti-inflammatory
effects. If you are taking cortisone medications,
vitamins C, B5 and 6 can help counteract the negative
effect on your adrenal glands. Vitamin C is also an
excellent anti-histamine.
